CES 2006

Consumer Electronics Show 2006 here I come – and what an experience it will be. As you may know the CES event is held annually in none other than Las Vegas, Nevada home to neon lights, gold pinky rings, free drinks, lost savings, desert graves and a plethora of other unique qualities presented by such films as Martin Scorsese’s Casino. I have not visited Las Vegas as I have not yet had a reason and look forward to experiencing its madness (albeit in moderation).

A majority of my time will be spent in meetings and such as I am attending in support of a client (a gargantuan Consumer Electronics company) though I intend to spend my remaining hours perusing the Emerging Technology exhibitors in search of hints of pervasive or ubiquitous computing, smart and friendly technology, and innovative new applications of technology to environments/people. My interest is less in cool or advanced gadgetry than it is in innovative ways to think about or integrate technology into our lives to produce more productive tools or richer connections between people and information.

Larry Page co-founder and President of Products, Google will present a keynote address I hope to catch as Google is one of few companies I believe understands that information-centricity is the future (though they have yet to exhibit aggressive signs of development or research like that of the Information Commons ). And surely there will be other interesting presentations – if CES is truly the forum to deliver the newest and most innovative technology there should be no deficit of assertions about the future or examples of innovative applications of currently available hardware.

If you too will attend the 2006 CES festivities and are aware of particularly interesting events/vendors/presentations or would like to say hi drop me a note or leave a comment.

Let us hear it

  1. Sorry for being offtopic but I just wanted say as gorgeous as your design and setup is, it unfortunately runs over in 1024×768 resolutions and all smaller. However, this is a very easy issue to fix since most of your site does appear within dimensions. You just need to move everything over to the left by a few hundred pixels. Or reposition for the Recent menu, perhaps underneath Daily Bits where it seems most appropirate. If you already acknowledge the problem, pardon the redunancy.
